Horner's main theme cribs the Adagio movement from Aram Khachaturian's "Gayane Ballet" (the slow piece from the "Discovery" sequences in 2001), his action music is a combination of his own scores from Brainstorm and Star Trek II, his suspense music heavily borrows from Goldsmith's score for the first film (without the orchestral invention that score exhibited) and there are his usual borrowings from Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Stravinsky. That said, this score will really get your adrenaline moving with its action sequences. For interesting Alien music, you must listen to Jerry Goldsmith's score for the first film or Elliot Goldenthal's Alien3.
